Fall 2014 Economic Update

Fall 2014 Economic Update

The busy summer season has come and gone, but that doesn’t mean things are grinding to a halt at the Market in Bamfield. Despite reduced hours, the local restaurant, grocery, and liquor store owned and operated by the HFN group of businesses is continuing to improve products and services.

After a good season where sales increased over the same time last year despite a drop in community visitors, transitional business managers John Mass and Sheryl Ferguson are renewing community partnerships and offering opportunities to citizens interested in working in the hospitality industry.

For the second year in a row, the Market won the contract to serve daily lunches at the Bamfield Community School. Once per month, Bamfield residents also have the opportunity to enjoy those meals through a themed luncheon served at the school. “In October, more than fifty people (including students) enjoyed our Thanksgiving-themed meal,” said Market Manager, John Mass. “There was so much demand, we had to turn people away at the door who didn’t have a reservation.” To secure a spot for the November meal, Mass suggests reserving ahead of time by calling the Bamfield Community School at 250-728-1220.
