Creating a Future As Rich as Our Past.

Located in the heart of Bamfield, British Columbia, The Market offers cafe, grocery, liquor store and restaurant services to a town of several hundred residents whose population more than quadruples in the summer.

Huu-ay-aht First Nations purchased The Market in the spring of 2013 and are working to re-establishing a presence in downtown Bamfield.

Immediately following the transfer to Huu-ay-aht ownership, a transition team assumed management of the store to establish and train staff, upgrade the overall premises, and craft a succession plan for future Huu-ay-aht management. In addition to serving the community, the Nation intends to use the store as a training ground for Huu-ay-aht citizens interested in gaining service sector skills and experience.

The Market will also become a hub for tourism activities in the area. Visitors can already pay moorage fees for the Bamfield East dock at the store. Eventually the store will also be linked to the Pachena Bay campground and other tourism businesses in the area.
